大学受験生の花子とお隣に住むアメリカ人のKateさんとの会話:

Hanako: Hello, Kate.

Kate: Hi, back from school?  I’m so busy these days.  I’m up to my ears in taking care of the baby.  I wish Ted, you met my husband, would give me a hand.

Hanako: (Kateの言っていることが理解できない!) I have three tests tomorrow.   I have to study hard tonight.

Kate: You’re a serious girl. I know you don’t have your head in the clouds, but you won’t pass the exams without studying.  Do you get cold feet before the tests?  Well, good luck tomorrow and let your hair down this weekend.

Hanako: マジ、ちんぷんかんぷんだ!
